In today’s post, I’m getting prepared for Christmas. Every year I come up with a strategy in order to enjoy Christmas as much as possible, and I’m sharing that strategy with you, in order to inspire, and help you to have a more enjoyable Christmas.

When I think about Christmas, I feel quite negative. There’s so much I don’t like about it, and even though I have made a lot of changes over the past few years to make it a lot easier, which it 100% is, I still find it annoying!
I don’t like having to conform to societal norms and the feeling of being forced to do something that I don’t want to do. I don’t like all the food which is hard for me to be around, and to manage myself with. I don’t like the fact that it’s my daughter‘s birthday on Christmas Eve which adds to the stress, and makes to really shit for her. I don’t like the uncomfortable conversations about who we are seeing over Christmas and the stress of trying to find a date that everyone can do. I don’t like having people to stay for longer than a few days which is inevitable at Christmas. And I don’t like how it interferes with my life and all the other things I like to usually do.
As you can see, I’ve got quite a negative mindset about it. In fact, when I think about it, I feel a lot of resentment and rage (which I’m actually really celebrating because I’m not responding with toxic anger here, but healthy rage, which is testament to the anger work I’ve done!).
But there’s nothing I can really do about this time of year, it’s always going to be here, and so I’m actually allowing myself to drop into a pretty disempowered state. And so for this year, I want to go deeper with my experience of Christmas, to step into my power, and to create, a Christmas that is on my terms.
And so I want to use this space, to consider, and set my intentions for Christmas. I’m hoping this will also inspire you to consider what kind of Christmas you’d like to create, and potentially to be braver in putting yourself, and your needs first.
